FUE Hair Transplant

FUE is the foundation of modern hair transplant surgery. Dr. Musbeh performs every extraction personally, using a refined technique that minimises transection and preserves the donor area for the long term.

What is FUE?

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a hair transplant technique in which individual follicular units — groups of 1–4 hairs — are extracted from the donor area using a circular punch, typically 0.7–1.0 mm in diameter. The extracted grafts are then implanted into recipient sites in the area of hair loss. FUE leaves no linear scar and allows patients to wear their hair short after surgery.

The extraction technique

The quality of FUE extraction is determined by the surgeon's ability to follow the angle and direction of each follicle beneath the scalp surface. Transection — cutting through the follicle during extraction — is the primary technical risk. Dr. Musbeh's extraction technique, refined over more than 17 years, achieves consistently low transection rates by adapting punch size and angle to each patient's follicular characteristics.

Donor area management

The donor area contains a finite number of extractable follicular units. Conservative extraction — distributing punch sites evenly across the safe zone and never exceeding 50% of available units in any given area — preserves the donor area's visual integrity and maintains reserves for future procedures. This principle is non-negotiable in Dr. Musbeh's practice.

FUE vs Sapphire FUE vs DHI

Standard FUE uses steel blades for recipient site creation. Sapphire FUE uses precision sapphire blades, which produce cleaner incisions and may reduce post-operative swelling — particularly useful in high-density cases. DHI uses an implanter device that creates sites and deposits grafts simultaneously, offering superior angle control for hairline work. Dr. Musbeh selects the most appropriate technique for each case.

Frequently asked questions

Does FUE leave scars?

FUE leaves small circular scars at each extraction site. At appropriate extraction densities, these are invisible. At high densities, they may become visible as white dots when hair is cut very short.

How many FUE grafts can be extracted in one session?

Typically 2,000–4,000 grafts in a single session, depending on donor density and the size of the safe zone. The appropriate number is determined by individual clinical assessment.

What is the difference between FUE and FUT?

FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) involves removing a strip of scalp from the donor area, leaving a linear scar. FUE extracts individual follicular units without a linear scar. FUE is the standard technique in modern hair restoration surgery.
