Sapphire FUE uses precision blades made from synthetic sapphire to create recipient sites with greater accuracy than steel blades. Dr. Musbeh uses this technique as his primary approach for frontal and mid-scalp restoration.
The medical assessment, surgical planning, hairline design, graft extraction, recipient-site creation and implantation are personally performed by Dr. Arslan Musbeh. FUE, Sapphire FUE and DHI are surgical techniques — Dr. Arslan Musbeh selects or combines the appropriate method after personally evaluating the patient's donor capacity, hair-loss pattern, hair characteristics and long-term needs.
What is Sapphire FUE?
Sapphire FUE is a variant of standard FUE in which recipient sites — the small incisions into which grafts are implanted — are created using blades made from synthetic sapphire (aluminium oxide) rather than steel. The extraction phase is identical to standard FUE. The difference lies in the precision and smoothness of the incision, which reduces tissue trauma at the recipient site.
Clinical advantages of sapphire blades
Sapphire blades are harder than steel and can be ground to a finer, more consistent edge. This produces cleaner incisions with less tissue displacement, which is associated with reduced post-operative swelling and potentially faster crusting resolution. The precision of sapphire blades also allows sites to be placed more closely together, making them particularly useful in high-density cases.
Who benefits most from Sapphire FUE?
Sapphire FUE offers the most meaningful advantages in high-density cases, in patients prone to post-operative swelling, and in patients with thinner or more delicate scalp skin. For standard cases where high density is not required, the clinical advantage over steel blades is more modest. Dr. Musbeh selects the technique based on the specific requirements of each case.
Limitations
Sapphire blades are more fragile than steel and must be replaced more frequently during a session. This adds to the cost of the procedure. For very large sessions requiring high graft counts over a wide area, the efficiency of Sapphire FUE may be a consideration in technique selection.
