Unshaven Hair Transplant
An unshaven hair transplant allows the procedure to be performed without shaving the recipient area. Dr. Musbeh uses DHI technique for unshaven procedures, which allows grafts to be implanted between existing hairs with precision.

What does "unshaven" mean?
In an unshaven procedure, the recipient area — the part of the scalp where grafts are implanted — is not shaved. The existing hair remains in place, and grafts are implanted between the existing hairs. The donor area may still need to be partially or fully shaved for extraction, depending on the technique used.
Who chooses an unshaven procedure?
The primary reason patients choose an unshaven procedure is privacy. A shaved head is a visible indicator that a hair transplant has taken place, which some patients — particularly professionals, public figures and those with social or professional commitments — want to avoid. An unshaven procedure allows the patient to return to normal activities within a few days of surgery, with the transplanted area concealed by the existing hair.
Technical considerations
Implanting grafts between existing hairs without damaging them requires a higher level of surgical skill and takes longer than implanting into a shaved area. The risk of transecting existing hairs is real and must be managed carefully. Unshaven procedures are generally more suitable for smaller sessions — typically up to 2,000–2,500 grafts.
Recovery in an unshaven procedure
The existing hair conceals the transplanted area from the day of surgery, making the post-operative period much less visible than in a standard shaved procedure. Post-operative care is more complex when existing hair is present, and patients must follow care instructions carefully to avoid dislodging grafts.
